Current State of Mind: Tired
The one thing I found really interesting about the films was the use of music. I believe music creates setting and feeling for movies and documentaries. I really liked how in the first movie the music was very proud. It was very fitting for the images of people praising Hitler and his army. At the time thats how the german people felt about him. It really gave you an idea of how completely clueless people where to what was really going on. For the viewer it almost made you sad and anger by the irony that the music was giving the images of Hitler.
Yes, the second movie was stomach hurting but the music was nice and numbing. The music in the second film was very low and constant. It didn't really change tempo and it was almost like it wasn't there. Just something to over lay on to the shots so not to have to much silence in the movie. I liked the music in this film because it didn't really make me interoperate the shots any different from what they where. Died people every where.

I think the first film's joyous and prideful music and shots made me sick to begin with. It was like watching the KKK say they will gladly help a blind african lady across an intersection. It was just horrible. That alone added onto the second film and made it more impacting. We saw the lies first perspective of a Nazi, but then the second's "truth revealed" was far more horrific than I had imagined. The pile of hair was beyond gross...and the bodies was straight up wrong.
Is there something about film and music that enables the artist to control or affect the viewer/listener's emotions?
If so, then is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Music definitely enables the artist to control the viewers.
(Spoil alert)
If you are a Sopranos fan, the last episode of the series plays "Don't Stop Believing." Tony, is very tired and paranoid. Tony watched his family come in one by one to the diner. As he watches his family he see some suspicious characters. Although we should fear Tony's life the music gives a peaceful mood which just makes you happy that he can see his family again.
Not until the picture and music cut does the audience think "something is wrong."
