the long commute

Well for starters, I have to commute to and from school every day. Its an hour and a half from the minute I leave my driveway to the minute I walk into the fast passed, noisy, windy city. For some reason or another I have wanted to go to Columbia since I was in seventh grade, in fact, it was the only college I applied for. I didn't have to go through the dramatic goodbyes and leaving home, however, I did have to sit there and watch all my friends as they packed up and left me. The only thing I have to worry about bringing everyday is my monthly Metra train pass and my supplies for that day's classes. I do bring extras on most days; I bring my Zune and a magazine for the lonely train rides and some cash for the three meals I have to eat while I spend my whole day walking around Chicago. I wish I was living up here, when you are standing in the crowded elevator and you hear people talking about "their floor" or "their roommate situation"; it tends to get me down because all I have to look forward to is an attic bedroom, work, or the siblings arguing about whose turn it is to go online or stare at the TV for hours. I wanted a place to go to get away, a change in scenery. So apart from getting up about an hour earlier than I would for high school, catching the Metra, and walking about 5 miles everyday, my life hasn't changed a bit. Hopefully next year will be different...
